Cherry Tree Counseling
Healing with purpose. Growing with hope.
Therapy Services
At Cherry Tree Counseling, therapy is individualized to you. No two people have the same history, relationships, strengths, or goals, which means therapy shouldn't look exactly the same for everyone either. I provide individual, couples, and family therapy using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches. Together, we can better understand the experiences and patterns that are affecting your life today, develop practical tools for navigating difficult emotions and circumstances, and work toward meaningful and lasting change.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy provides a space to better understand yourself, work through difficult experiences, develop healthier patterns, and move toward the life you want to build.
I work with adults and adolescents experiencing concerns such as:
-
Anxiety and chronic worry
-
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
-
Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
Childhood and developmental trauma
-
Depression
-
Shame and low self-worth
-
Perfectionism and people-pleasing
-
Relationship and attachment difficulties
-
Family-of-origin concerns
-
Identity and self-esteem
-
Grief and loss
-
Stress and emotional overwhelm
-
Difficult life transitions
-
Boundary and assertiveness concerns
-
Women's issues
-
Relationship loss, separation, and divorce
-
Spiritual and faith-related concerns
Therapy can also be valuable when nothing is necessarily "wrong," but you want to understand yourself more deeply, strengthen your relationships, or make intentional changes in your life.
Couples Therapy
Relationships can become stuck in painful cycles even when both people care deeply about one another. Couples therapy can help partners slow those patterns down, better understand what is happening underneath conflict, and learn healthier ways of communicating and connecting.
Couples therapy may address:
-
Communication difficulties
-
Recurring conflict
-
Emotional disconnection
-
Attachment concerns
-
Trust and relationship injuries
-
Life transitions
-
Boundaries and expectations
-
Intimacy and emotional connection
-
Family-of-origin patterns affecting the relationship
-
Strengthening an existing relationship
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I approach relationship concerns systemically. Rather than simply determining who is "right" or "wrong," we work to understand the patterns developing between partners and what may be needed to create healthier interactions.
Family Therapy
Families are interconnected systems, and difficulties affecting one person often influence the entire family. Family therapy provides an opportunity to identify patterns, strengthen communication, navigate transitions, and create healthier relationships within the family.
Family therapy may be helpful for:
-
Parent-child and adolescent concerns
-
Communication difficulties
-
Family conflict
-
Major transitions or changes
-
Boundary concerns
-
Relationship repair
-
Understanding recurring family patterns
-
Strengthening connection within the family
Trauma & EMDR Therapy
Trauma can affect far more than memories of what happened. It can influence relationships, self-worth, emotional regulation, beliefs about yourself and others, and the way your nervous system responds to the world around you. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have completed advanced training related to complex trauma and dissociation. Trauma treatment is individualized and paced according to each client's needs. Trauma-informed therapy may involve developing greater safety and emotional regulation, understanding trauma responses, addressing present-day patterns, processing traumatic memories when appropriate, and strengthening a sense of identity and self-trust.
OCD & Anxiety Treatment
OCD can create exhausting cycles of intrusive thoughts, anxiety, uncertainty, avoidance, reassurance seeking, checking, rumination, and other compulsive behaviors. Treatment focuses not simply on making uncomfortable thoughts disappear, but on helping you change your relationship with those thoughts and regain freedom in your everyday life.
I am trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and integrate ERP with other approaches when appropriate, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and psychoeducation. Treatment is collaborative and tailored to the individual rather than forcing every client into the same treatment protocol.
Therapeutic Approaches
I practice from an integrative perspective, meaning that I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending upon your needs, goals, personality, and circumstances.
Approaches I may incorporate include:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A trauma-focused therapy that can help the brain process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional intensity associated with traumatic memories.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
An evidence-based treatment for OCD that helps clients gradually face feared thoughts, feelings, situations, and uncertainty while reducing compulsive responses.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Parts Work
An approach that helps clients understand different internal emotional states or "parts" with curiosity and compassion while strengthening a more grounded relationship with themselves.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps clients develop greater flexibility around difficult thoughts and emotions while making choices based upon their values and the life they want to create.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT explores connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and helps clients recognize and change patterns that may be contributing to distress.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Attachment-focused work explores how important relationships and earlier experiences may influence current relationships, emotional needs, trust, and patterns of connection.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic approaches help clients develop deeper insight into recurring emotional and relational patterns, including ways that past experiences may continue to influence the present.
Systemic & Family Therapy
Rather than viewing concerns solely within the individual, systemic therapy considers relationships, families, environments, and broader patterns that influence a person's experiences.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed treatment emphasizes emotional safety, collaboration, choice, empowerment, and an understanding of how difficult experiences can affect the mind, body, relationships, and nervous system.
Christian & Catholic Integration
For clients who desire it, faith and spirituality can be incorporated into therapy. This may include exploring values, meaning, prayer, spiritual resources, or the relationship between psychological and spiritual well-being. Faith integration is always client-directed. Clients of all faith traditions and clients who are not religious are welcome.

Taking the Next Step
You don't need to know exactly what type of therapy you need before reaching out. Part of my role is helping us understand what you are experiencing and determining together which approaches may be most helpful. Whether you are looking for support through a difficult season, relief from patterns that have been controlling your life, healing from painful experiences, healthier relationships, or simply a better understanding of yourself, therapy can be a place to begin.
